Limits, support and how the desk works

When gambling stops being part of a weekend in Hanover and starts to weigh on it, free help answers at any hour. Below that, the Sideroad desk explains how this guide is written, checked and paid for.

Four places to turn

  • At any hour, ConnexOntario offers help that is free and confidential. Phone 1-866-531-2600, chat at connexontario.ca, or text CONNEX to 247247.
  • With OLG's My PlayBreak, a person can bar themselves from every Ontario casino for 3 months, 6 months or 1 to 5 years. A break cannot be cut short. Sign-up is handled by casino staff, a PlaySmart Centre or the OLG Support Centre, reachable at 1-800-387-0098.
  • BetGuard (betguard.ca) is run by iGaming Ontario and blocks a person from all regulated Ontario online gambling sites, including OLG.ca. A person can pick 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a term of their own. Land-based casinos are not covered.
  • OLG runs PlaySmart, a responsible gambling site found at playsmart.ca.

Keeping the weekend a weekend

Before the car leaves Walkerton, Kincardine or Toronto, settle how much of the weekend budget, if any, goes to play. Pick the hour you head home as well. Write both down if that helps. Then keep to them, even on a Friday when the floor runs past midnight.

The guide never suggests an amount. A number agreed in the driveway holds better than one picked at 1 a.m.

The facts were checked on October 14, 2026, against the casino's pages, Hanover Raceway's pages, OLG's casino list and Ontario government and agency pages. Where the casino's live site could not be reached, archived copies made in March 2026 filled the gap. Times are Eastern time. Distances are straight lines from the casino to OpenStreetMap town points (© OpenStreetMap contributors), and a road is always longer.

Both site tools, the door check and the hours tool, run inside the open browser tab and keep nothing. Only the light or dark theme is remembered, in that tab. Paid links, marked Ad, appear on the home page only.
